Statement from The Imps
The Trustees of The Imps announce, with deep sadness, that following a full review and formal vote, the charity will now close permanently.
This decision has not been taken lightly. For more than 50 years, under the extraordinary leadership of Roy Pratt MBE, The Imps embodied courage, discipline, and self-belief. Thousands of young people were inspired through their involvement, and countless families, friends, and audiences shared in that journey. Protecting and honouring that legacy remains our priority.
Despite every effort, the Trustees have concluded that insurmountable challenges make it no longer viable to continue. To press on regardless would risk compromising the very standards and values that Roy devoted his life to building.
To ensure the closure is handled responsibly and in full compliance with regulations:
-
Lawyers and accountants have been formally appointed to manage the process.
-
The Charity Commission has been informed.
-
Any surplus funds, once liabilities are met, will be donated to another charity with similar aims, as set out in our Articles of Association.
We are also exploring ways to maintain and develop the Imps online community, so that memories and legacy can continue to live on. This will take time, and further details will be shared in due course.
The Trustees remain immensely grateful for the loyalty, passion, and support shown by the children, parents, volunteers, and wider community who made The Imps such a remarkable part of so many lives.
Roy’s legacy will endure in every life touched by his work.

Imps Motorcycle Display
The world's premier military style display team
The ‘IMPS’ is dedicated to educating children through, though not exclusively, their leisure time activities, this is delivered by a disciplined, dynamic and challenging programme of activities with a world-famous motorcycle display team at its heart.

About Us
From the sound of revving engines to the awe of a billowing fire jump and the suspense of a multiple motorcycle combination ‘cross-over’ routine, The Imps will have you mesmerised by an unmissable display of discipline and skill. Furthermore, you will be stunned to learn that the youngest performer is only five years old!
The Imps Motorcycle Display Team, noted for its impeccable smart red tunics and highly disciplined spectacular show originated in the 1970’s from The Hackney Adventure Holiday Project – a charity founded by Roy Pratt MBE that provided holidays in the country for under privileged young people. Some of the children found a dysfunctional old ‘motorbike’ – one thing led to another and a motorcycle display team, uniquely comprising young people aged six to sixteen, emerged.
